Understanding Acupuncture

Acupuncture promotes the body's natural healing process to in order to help a wide range of physical and mental conditions. Acupuncture is an art as well as a science. It is rooted in a unique and complicated medical system that has been effectively used for centuries.

How Acupuncture Treatments Work

An acupuncture treatment involves the insertion of fine needles into carefully selected points found just below the surface of the skin.

Acupuncture points are located on pathways traditionally called "meridians". Each meridian has a number of acupuncture points that correspond to a specific set of functions within the body. Collectively, these meridians form a communication network that connects and directs all activities within the body.

When a skilled acupuncturist stimulates a set of carefully selected points with an acupuncture needle, a message is sent through the meridians to their related body systems to help promote healing and and improve functioning.

From a modern medicine perspective, the needling of an acupuncture point stimulates the nervous system and triggers a series of biochemical messages that influence and direct the body's innate healing capabilities.

Acupuncture is Safe, Natural, and Effective

Thousands of people around the world turn to acupuncture for a wide spectrum of health concerns with great results.

Acupuncture is one of the safest treatment options available today because it is natural and has very few side effects. There are no substances on the acupuncture needles, and nothing is injected into the body. Acupuncture works by stimulating the body at specific points to facilitate it's own healing process.

Despite acupuncture's safety and effectiveness it is important to go to an acupuncturist who is not only certified, but also trained in the full spectrum of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine.
